Opposite Sex Friendships: Playing with Fire

I’ll warn you ahead of time.  You may not agree with anything I have to say in this blog.  In fact, you might think I’m living in the dark ages…but that’s okay. The issue I’m talking about today is friendships with the opposite sex.  But please understand ahead of time that I am coming at this from the angle of seeing the destruction it almost cost my marriage and the fact I have been married for 21 ½ years. My opinion is that having a friendship with someone of the opposite sex is playing with fire.  Think about how many … Continue reading

Insurers to Give Discounts to Same-Sex Married Couples

In the Summer of 2011, New York State became the eighth state to recognize same-sex marriages. As a result, two of the biggest insurance companies will be giving a discount on auto insurance premiums to same-sex married couples. The discount will be the same as what opposite-sex married couples currently receive. There are eight states that currently recognize the marriages of same-sex couples. These states are: Connecticut, District of Columbia, Iowa, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, and Vermont. California currently recognizes some marriages that have already occurred between couples of the same-sex, (but will not allow new same-sex marriages to … Continue reading

Men: The Weaker Sex?

Before I begin, I just want to say that, even though the title might suggest otherwise, this article isn’t intended to be a slam against men. Rather, it’s just some reflections on things I’ve seen regarding boyfiends and husbands over the past 10 years during my stint as a stay-at-home wife. Not that I’ve had all sorts of relationships with other men. But I’ve had lots and lots of talks with my women friends. It was when I was living in Jacksonville that I noticed a pattern forming where our husbands were concerned. And ever since I noticed it, I … Continue reading

Marriages without Sex (3)

Today we conclude the story of Sue, the wife who only had sex with her husband on two occasions throughout the course of their marriage. This was specifically in order to have her two children and the times and dates of intercourse were meticulously planned in order to maximize her chances of conception. You can read the full story of Sue and her husband James by clicking on the links below. After the birth of his second son, via Sue’s clandestine means, James found out that his wife’s reluctance to have sex was grounded in her childhood. Her father had … Continue reading

Marriages without Sex (1)

The concept of marriage without sex is a strange one, yet cases do exist and they are not as infrequent as you might imagine. Situations occur in which the woman remains a virgin during the entire course of the marriage. These cases are rare. More commonly, women choose selective sex within the marriage. Many of these cases of selective intercourse involve women who have been sexually abused. Today we will look at the story of Sue. Sue is a qualified psychologist and met her husband-to-be while at university. They dared for several years while they completed their degrees. During that … Continue reading

Iconic Sex Symbols – Part 3

This is my final installment of iconic sex symbols. I’ve already covered many of the obvious – Mel Gibson, Elvis, Warren Beatty, Marlon Brando, and Paul Newman. Here are a few more on my list: James Dean You know, when I was younger, I had a really hard time seeing Dean as sexy. However, as I age, I begin to get it. He is an iconic sex symbol truly frozen in time, as he died at the young age of 24, while still young and handsome. Would he have aged well? We will never know, but the whole package of … Continue reading

Infidelity

Many marriages, but not all, experience infidelity at one time or another, either through the wife’s actions, the husband’s, or even possibly both. It can be overcome, but not accidentally, not by chance, not by wishing for it. The partner who cheated must feel true regret for what happened and make a sincere, solid decision that it will never happen again. They must break all ties with the person they cheated with, and never interact with them in any way again—otherwise, not only will the temptation be too great, but they will be reminded of the affair every time they … Continue reading

Marriage and Happiness – is it possible?

While divorce is nothing new in this country, when I read about long-term marriages coming to an end, ala the Gore’s, the Schwarzenegger’s, and the Edward’s, I start to wonder if it is even possible to stay married forever anymore. I hear a lot about the “old days’, but I have a lot of grandparents due to multiple re-marriages. My great-grandparents remained together, but one spouse died long before the other. So maybe those that stay married forever over a real long time period are the anomalies. Maybe now that we live longer and more women are able to support … Continue reading

Dennis Hopper Dies at 74

If you have seen a picture of Dennis Hopper lately, you knew his death was inevitable and today, the inevitable took one of Hollywood’s perennial bad boys. Dennis Hopper died of prostate cancer at the age of 74. Hopper’s last public appearance was when he received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on March 26 of this year. Hopper saw something most of today’s actors can only hope for – a career that spanned almost six decades. He did television and he did the big screen. He was in westerns, action films, and indies. He played villains, lost … Continue reading
