Does Money Make You a Better Parent?

When you become a single parent you quickly learn that there is never enough money. Your kids learn this lesson too, much earlier than you want them too. It’s hard for your kids not to have the things everyone else has, it’s also hard when you are the one who always has to tell them no. Many studies that are done on single parents focus on income as a reason children from single parent households struggle. This may be true, but not having everything handed to you and learning the value of hard work gives our children life skills they … Continue reading

Scents and Dreams (and Nightmares)

German researchers have found that different smells can influence your dreams. When study participants were exposed to bad smells (researchers used rotten eggs), they generally had bad dreams. When study participants were exposed to good smells (researchers used roses), the dreams were generally good ones. It does make sense — smell stimulates a whole lot of behaviors in the body. Different scents can influence emotion, bring back memories, increase or decrease appetite, and even stimulate sexual arousal. Dangerous smells can even trigger a fight-or-flight response. The scent of burning (even if it’s just my neighbors using their grill on the … Continue reading

Motherhood Dreams

Many of us are initiated into the world of what I call “motherhood dreams” when we are expecting—whether during pregnancy or anticipating and waiting for an adoption, I think our subconscious starts to work on parenting and motherhood issues before our child even arrives. Is He the Man of Your Dreams?

If you were asked to describe your idea of a perfect man, would you be describing your husband? I think that this question all depends on the day and time that it is asked! Of course we all have those moments when we feel that our spouses are less than perfect. However, in general, are you satisfied with what you have or are there a few things that you would change if you had the chance? I have noticed at some of my girlfriend get togethers there are some women who continuously complain about their husbands. I cannot say that … Continue reading

“Stress” Dreams of a Single Mom

I am a big believer in dream analysis; okay, maybe I’m into having my dreams “officially” analyzed and I don’t necessarily think of them as “visions”—but I do think things can be worked out in my subconscious while I sleep. I’ve gotten some pretty good insight and inspiration from my dreams over the years, so I keep a dream symbol book near the bed and try to at least pay attention to what is going down in my dream world. Periodically, I have what I think of as “single parent” dreams—dreams where I am incredibly busy and there are all … Continue reading

Next to guilt, one of the most self-defeating and troublesome personal emotions to carry into your home business is self-doubt. While it is perfectly naturally to wonder at times if you are doing what you should be doing and/or making the right choices, self-doubt can actually sabotage your ability to be focused, take chances, and build a successful home business. Concern, interest, self-reflection—all of these are valuable traits that can help us evaluate our work efforts and focus in on doing the best job possible in our home businesses. However, if we are constantly doubting ourselves, second-guessing our decisions, and … Continue reading
